The Association of Black Psychologists encourages outstanding scholarship related to persons of African descent. Accordingly, ABPsi will recognize outstanding research conducted by its membership during the 40th Annual International Conference in Oakland, CA. An independent committee will evaluate all paper submissions and make two awards for the most outstanding Student Member ($500) and most outstanding Professional Member ($500) submissions. Awardees will be expected to present their papers at the conference in Oakland, July 31, 2008 to August 5, 2008.
Evaluation criteria will include:
- Relevance of the research to the psychological experience of African-descent populations;
- Soundness of the submission’s theoretical/conceptual framework and methodology
- Potential of the research to inform and improve policy-making;
- Extent to which the research represents an innovative perspective
- Likelihood of being published
Individuals submitting papers must be the first author. Multiple submissions are not allowed. Guidelines for authors outlined in the Journal of Black Psychology should be used in preparing manuscripts. Manuscripts cannot exceed 35 double-spaced pages.
