Chairperson Elect:
Bedford Palmer
Greetings Family,
My name is Bedford Frank Palmer, and I am the Chairperson Elect for the ABPsi Student Circle. I have a master’s degree in research psychology, and currently, I am working on my doctorate in counseling psychology at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. I will be pursuing a course of research which includes African centered psychology, worldview, acculturation, and social support. I’ve been a member of the Student Circle since 2004 and a member of the Executive Board, as the Communications Chair since 2005. While participating in the Student Circle, I have seen many changes begin to occur in ABPsi, and it seems like we are in a pretty exciting time. I look forward to continuing to work with the rest of the Student Circle, in order to increase the role of students in the Association.
As Chairperson Elect it is my duty to assist the Chairperson in tasks as needed. To oversee the progress of any subcommittee activities and keep the Chairperson updated on subcommittee progress. Subcommittees are critical to the overall functioning of the Student Circle. The Chairperson-Elect also assists the Chairperson in planning Student Circle events at the national convention. To these ends I have set these goals: (1) Facilitate, with the assistance of the Communication Chair, the creation of a better communication infrastructure within and between SC Committee Chairs and their prospective committees, and (2) use this better communication in order to insure that each committee is focused on issues that are within the scope of its prevue and that those issues work together to forward a combined vision of the set direction and proscribed by the ABPsi Student Circle Executive Board. It is my hope that through greater student participation, the Association will continue to grow and strengthen its infrastructure, and that it will become an even greater source of professional and social support for its student members.
