Secretary/Historian: Floyd Henderson
Greetings, Family. My name is Floyd Henderson, and I am the Secretary/Historian for the ABPsi Student Circle. Presently, I am a second year student in the Clinical Adolescent Psychology doctoral program at Prairie View A&M University, located in Prairie View, Texas. Upon completion, I will pursue a career in academia and research. My research interests include seeking to ameliorate the disproportionate high school drop-out numbers of African American students in general, and African America males in specific. Additionally, there are issues regarding the matriculation rates of students from HBCUs that I endeavor to explore. I currently have two related articles on the Education Resources Information Center (ERIC).
As a member of the local Houston ABPsi chapter and the newly elected Secretary of the Student Circle, I am excited by the opportunity to collaborate with such an awesome host of professionals. The Executive Committee and the Board of Directors have afforded me this dual mission of learning and serving with like minded members of the psychology community who are seeking to strengthen the psychological well-being of individuals of African descent. The Secretary/Historian’s role is interesting and challenging. My duties include maintaining data for the Student Circle and the Chair, providing minutes of meetings to the Executive Board, and being a repository for information and documents of the ABPsi Student Circle. The Historian aspects include chronicling events and activities of the ABPsi Student Circle via visual representation.
The information age affords the opportunity to obtain information and capture events via photography and disseminate this information quickly. Providing opportunities for all members to share in momentous occasions experienced all around the world. I hope to become a conduit of information for the members, exposing the successes and community outreach of the members. If you have ideas or suggestions that would increase the proficiency of this position and this mission, please don’t hesitate to contact me via email at fthenderson@sbcglobal.net.
