The General Assembly is essential to the Association as it is charged with oversight of viable standing committees, as well as ad hoc committees. All members of ABPsi are members of the GA. It is an excellent way to get involved, share new ideas, and contribute to the future of ABPsi. Get involved in the family!
The Public Policy Committee authors emergency responses, commentaries, policy briefs, and position papers on behalf of the Association. Most recently, members from our NY and Washington DC chapters collaborated on a position paper regarding the insurrection on January 6, 2021, which you can view on our website and Facebook page. The committee is in the process of completing statements from members regarding other relevant issues to our community, ranging from COVID-19 to incarcerated families. If you are passionate about advocacy and would like to help ABPsi’s voice be heard on important issues in the US and around the world, the Public Policy Committee is for you!
The Membership Committee represents the voices/interests of the membership. The membership committee forms taskforces to address the specific needs of our community. It is from this committee that the early career professionals task force grew into an actual Early Career Professionals Committee. It is here that we take a closer look at the needs of our members and work to develop action plans to address the issues. Furthermore, this committee is responsible for partnering with our National Convention Committee (NCC) in the planning of professional development workshops. If you are interested in contributing to the programming offered to members and meeting the needs of the ABPsi membership, this committee is for you!
This committee is committed to supporting our Early Career Professionals (ECPs). As previously stated, this committee began as a task force to strengthen the pipeline between SC and ECPs and provide ECP-specific programming to our National Convention. Some of which included EPPP support as well as Board support of a reduced fee structure for ECPs. For example, the 1st year dues for graduates with a doctoral degree is $125. This committee is critical, as it bridges the gap between students and the unique issues faced by ECPs. If you are interested in the needs of ECPs, please consider joining.
This committee advances the Association’s relationship with psychologists throughout the Diaspora and partners with the Board-appointed International Relations Representative. If you are passionate about the concerns of our community within the Diaspora, please join!
The Funding Committee seeks to identify fiscal sustainability for GA initiatives. This is an essential GA committee in that it seeks to create innovative ideas for funding the various GA projects and initiatives. Please consider being a part of this committee.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions regarding the different committees or suggestions/areas that we should be addressing. We ask if you are willing to serve; please email the General Assembly by April 15th.
