Certification in African/Black Psychology

ABOUT

Baba Wade NoblesThe Certification in African/Black Psychology (CABP) is the actualization of the science of African/Black psychology in praxis. The establishment of the Association of Black Psychologists’ (ABPsi’s) CABP has created a standard of proficiency for African centered psychology. This is accomplished through the African worldview, which embodies the epistemological, ontological, cosmological, aesthetic, phenomenological, and hermeneutical grounding in African discourse.

CABP’s recommendations and rationale regarding praxis development for certification ensures that certified professionals are reasonably qualified to offer culturally congruent services and education to populations of African/Black ancestry. In order to be authentic to this science and the mission of ABPsi, the CABP recognizes, operationalizes and quantifies the relative contributions of the past, present and future that reflect authentic African episteme and praxis. CABP evaluates culturally congruent skills, analytical approaches, applications and restorative processes that promote healing and development in the African/Black community. The Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi) has been at the forefront of African-centered cultural competence and scholarly activism since its inception in 1968. The fundamental task and challenge of CABP certificants is to uphold ABPsi’s “mission and destiny as the liberation of the African Mind, empowerment of the African Character, and enlivenment and illumination of the African Spirit.”

* The inclusion of diverse expressions of the African worldview, deep thought, and wisdom traditions.

Philosophy

The Certification in African/Black Psychology (CABP) is grounded in our African science, philosophical corpus, and Jegnaship. Rooted in the diverse expressions of Ancient and Traditional African/Black worldview, deep thought, and wisdom, we accomplish this through penetrating ancient writings, teachings, rituals and practices that reveal the knowledge of being, becoming and belonging. CABP recipients, therefore, will embrace this philosophical base and ABPsi’s mission and destiny, which is, the liberation of the African Mind, empowerment of the African Character, and enlivenment and illumination of the African Spirit.
